Brushed surface – wood brushing
With this treatment, the growth rings on the wood surface are emphasized. The wood is first planed, sanded and then the wood located between two growth rings is "carved out" using special metal and plastic brushes. The visible growth ring is formed during the winter, so growth is slower, and the wood in this part is denser and consequently, of course, harder. The wood located between two growth rings, however, is formed during the summer, when growth is intensive, and therefore this part of the wood is softer. The brushes then "carve out" the less dense wood, giving the appearance of aged wood.
However, the intensity and appearance of brushed wood differ due to the following factors:
- the density of the wood
- the methods of cutting the wood (radial, tangential)
- the direction of brushing and
- knots
No two brushed boards are identical. Therefore, it is impossible to expect all the wood to have the same appearance.
